As the year winds down, it’s time to look ahead at what might define interior design in 2025. Reflecting on the trends we’ve seen this year provides a glimpse into what’s likely to fade and what could take center stage next year. While we can’t guarantee every prediction will hit the mark, we’re here to spark inspiration and help you stay ahead of the curve. Lets look at our interior design predictions for 2025:
2024 Interior Design Recap
The Decline of Formal Hamptons Style
While this classic coastal aesthetic has long been a favorite, its popularity waned this year. The structured, formal feel of Hamptons interiors seems to be giving way to more relaxed and versatile interpretations of coastal living. That’s not to say that Hamptons is out – we still see many of these homes popping up… Perhaps this is due to our beautiful coastal position here in Southeast Queensland.
Shift to Coastal Style
Speaking of coastal, this style has been a rising star in 2024. Its laid-back, breezy vibe resonates deeply, particularly in areas near water. This style strikes a balance between casual charm and sophisticated comfort, making it an evolution of Hamptons rather than a complete departure. Here we saw rattan and un-painted woods make an entrance, nodding towards that natural look of coastal, versus the white painted woods of the Hamptons.
Earthy Colours and Natural Materials Take Over
From natural stones to unstained woods, homeowners gravitated toward earthy tones and raw materials this year. These elements bring warmth and timelessness, perfectly complementing a coastal aesthetic without feeling overly curated.
The Rise and Fall of Yellow-Gold Fixtures
Yellow-gold fixtures had their moment in the spotlight but faded just as quickly. While undeniably chic in the right setting, concerns about these accents dating homes led many to steer clear of this fleeting trend. So what do we think?… When done right, yellow gold will always have it’s place!
Predictions for Interior Design Trends in 2025
Continuation of Natural and Earthy Tones
We expect muted colors to remain at the forefront as homeowners look for alternatives to white without veering into short-lived trends. Think soft terracottas, sage greens, and dusty blues – calming yet character-rich tones that make a subtle statement.
Increased Texture in Design
The rise of fluted wood, stone, and unique finishes like mother-of-pearl or roman-clay plaster will likely continue. These textures embrace maximalism without clutter, adding depth and dimension to your spaces.
A Mid-Century Modern Revival
Mid-century modern is making a comeback, particularly in luxury designs. This makes sense as we follow the evolution from formal Hamptons, to earthy Coastal – those natural tones easily transform into moody, warm mid-century designs. From sleek furniture silhouettes to bold design choices, we expect this iconic style to influence mainstream interiors, including by custom home builders, in 2025.
The Return of Silver and Chrome Fixtures
As part of the mid-century resurgence, chrome fixtures may step into the spotlight. No longer seen as a “default” choice, we think silver and chrome will shine as intentional design elements, offering a fresh take on timeless metals. This is good news for people looking to build, as silver/chrome is usually the lease expensive option!
Warm Beige and Rich Browns
The warmth of beige is here to stay, but 2025 may see this trend deepen into richer browns. These tones harmonize beautifully with mid-century modern elements, creating a cozy yet refined palette. A way to make a bold statement whilst keeping within a natural and timeless palette.
Looking Ahead
Interior design is always evolving, reflecting cultural shifts and personal preferences. Whether you’re planning a home renovation or a commercial project, these trends offer inspiration to create spaces that feel fresh, timeless, and uniquely yours.
Which of these predictions will prove true? Only time will tell. Until then, we’ll keep our eyes on the horizon for what’s next in interior design.
